About

Why this site exists

Most software reviews are written by people who have never opened the software.

You can tell. They restate the pricing page, list the features in the vendor’s own words, rank ten products nobody could have used in one week, and finish with a button. The words are fine. The experience behind them is zero.

runthetool.com is the opposite bet: fewer tools, actually used, and written up honestly — including the parts that went badly.

How we work

We set the tool up properly. Real account, real data, a real task we were trying to finish. Not a tour of the dashboard.

We write down what happened. How long setup took. Where it broke. What we couldn’t make it do. What it did better than expected.

We show the evidence. Screenshots of the actual screens, with the actual numbers. If we claim something took forty minutes, there is a reason we know that.

We don’t publish what we haven’t tested. If we have not used a tool, we do not review it. If a section of a review rests on the vendor’s documentation rather than our own use, it says so in that section.

We correct things. Software changes. When a review goes out of date we update it and note what changed, rather than quietly editing it.

Who writes it

Everything here is written by KMB.

I publish under my initials. That’s a deliberate privacy choice, not a hidden agenda — I’d rather tell you that plainly than have you wonder. What it means for you: you can’t look me up, so you shouldn’t take anything here on authority. Take it on evidence. Every review shows what was actually done, and the screenshots are there for you to check my reasoning rather than trust my name.

If that isn’t enough for you, that’s a fair position. Read the testing and judge it.

What we cover

Business and marketing software for small teams — CRM, SEO and email tools. A narrow range on purpose. One person cannot genuinely test forty products, and a site that claims to has told you something about itself.

What we’ve tested so far

Nothing yet. This site launched in September 2026 and the first reviews are in progress. This section will list every product tested, the plan used and when — and it will stay honest about the size of that list.

How it’s funded

Affiliate commission from software vendors, at no extra cost to you. The full explanation, including which companies pay us and what that money does not buy, is on the affiliate disclosure page. It’s worth two minutes before you trust anything here.
